The National Broadcasting Commission has fined Channels Television, Arise Television and Africa Independent Television for what it tagged “unprofessional coverage” of the #EndSARS protests.
The acting Director-General of the NBC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba, announced this at a press conference in Abuja on Monday.
Last week, NBC had passed a strong warning to all television and radio stations on how the protest should be covered.
It stated that the protest shouldn’t be covered in a manner that could embarrass the government or private individuals or cause disaffection, incite to panic or rift.
Idachaba stated that the broadcast stations were fined over their “unprofessional coverage” of the EndSARS protests and violating the broadcasting code.
He further added that the stations were guilty of airing unverified images of the Lekki shooting.
